Welcome to Baldernock Gardening Club,

Our club was founded in the Parish of Baldernock over 30 years ago by Sue and Ian Bell. The initial membership consisted of 7 like minded gardening enthusiasts and they met in Baldernock Parish Church Hall. A few of the original 7 members are still with us and have remained loyal to the club as its membership increased over the years and bigger venues were required to cater for the growth. Our current meeting venue is in Baljaffray Church Hall, eminently large enough to cope with our current membership of around 100, plus a waiting list. We maintain our links with Baldernock, not only through our name, but also by using the officially recognised Baldernock tartan which is on the bottom border of our pages. We thank Baldernock Community Council for allowing us the use of the tartan.

The emphasis of the club is very much on learning about and enjoying plants, gardens and gardening in a relaxed, informal and friendly atmosphere. Our meetings are held on the second Wednesday evening of each month from September to June. Each month we have excellent speakers from all over the UK talking on a wide range of horticultural and
garden related topics (click on the Programmes page to see this year’s talks and those from previous years). All our speakers appear in person, except for the occasional one who presents their talk over Zoom. There are plenty of opportunities to ask questions of the speakers and to chat to fellow members over a cup of tea/coffee afterwards. In December and June each year we have two Members Only evenings, but on all the other evenings, guests and visitors are very welcome to join us for a small fee of £4.00. In the summer months we organise outings to gardens and nurseries around Scotland.

Each year in May, to raise funds to cover all of the above, we hold our renowned Annual Plant Sale, which has become, over the years, a feature of the local calendar. The whole club concentrates its collective energy by offering for sale, plants from their own gardens. The range on offer, at very reasonable prices, is extensive, sometimes exotic, always tried and tested and there is always a plant for every garden.

If you wish to join our vibrant club either as a member or just to receive our monthly newsletter please contact us. Being on the mailing list is free and can be “unsubscribed” at any time. We do not send out e-mails that are not club related and to attend any open meetings, there is no requirement to book in advance. We look forward to hearing from you.
