Welcome to Baldernock Gardening Club’s website.

Our Club, which has been going strong for nearly 30 years, started in the parish of Baldernock but moved into neighbouring Milngavie in 2011 when we outgrew our original premises.     Whilst the Club has been affected by the Covid restrictions over the past year, all of our scheduled Meetings were held over the Zoom medium.      For the coming year, it is anticipated that some meetings will continue to be held by Zoom, some may be hybrid and hopefully, some will be without restrictions.     As soon as we have finalised a location for our physical Meetings, notification will be sent to you.

Our meetings, prior to the Covid Pandemic, were held in the Fraser Centre in Milngavie town centre on the first Tuesday of each month between September and May.     Since April of 2020, as mentioned above, our Meetings have been held virtually.     Our Zoom Meetings throughout the 2020/21 season were successful, with very good sized audiences for each.  For the coming 2021/22 season all our speakers have agreed either to Zoom only or, if restrictions are lifted sufficiently for us to meet en masse, to actually appear live!   As in the past, we invite and listen to excellent speakers from all over the UK talking on a wide range of horticulturally and garden related topics (see programmes pages) plus, there is always the opportunity to ask questions at the end of every talk.  There is still time for a short chat afterwards should Members wish.

The emphasis is very much on learning about and enjoying plants, gardens and gardening in a relaxed, informal and very friendly atmosphere.    Hopefully in the coming year we will be able to have our usual Christmas Party: we did manage it in December last year over Zoom, but it wasn’t quite the same.     Our annual Summer Party Social gathering has had to be postponed for the past two years, but the venue is still booked for the coming year.     We plan, too, to recommence our Member Outings.

We are proud to be financially independent.    In May, in order to raise funds for all of the above, the whole club throws its collective energy into the renowned Baldernock Gardening Club Annual Plant Sale, at which, apart from a few bedding plants, all the plants offered for sale (at very reasonable prices) are grown in the gardens of our members.   The range on offer is extensive, sometimes exotic, always tried and tested and there is usually a plant suitable for every garden!      Unfortunately, we have been unable to hold the Sale over the past two years; we are optimistic that in May 2022 we will make a startling return.

Membership numbers are growing, so if you are interested in joining our vibrant Club, let us know and we will put you on our waiting list.    In the interim all is not lost, as visitors are very welcome to attend talks via Zoom, as long as you are on our E-Mailing List and, if space available and when we can again embark upon them, some of the outings.

If you have email and wish to be notified of these, just contact us and we will put you on our non-member e-mailing list.    It is free and you can ‘unsubscribe’ at any time.     We do not send out any e-mails to you other than details concerning the Club.     Unless otherwise advised, there is no need to book in advance for meetings.
